Getting higher rankings in search engines is called search engine optimization or SEO. This can be done in a few ways. The frameworks include what is called organic SEO, and that means that the code itself is made cleanly which is reflected in how search engines like Google, ranks your site. The amount of unique content plays the most critical role in ranking you higher in search engines. The more relevant content you have on your website, means higher search engine visibility.
When creating your content, its also important to include keywords that search engines will pick up on. I use an SEO Wordpress plugin in all web design projects I create. Its free and easy to use. Its great for website pages that don't have very much text, and can be used in addition to any great content you already have. This plugin allows you to create a page title, description, and include keywords so that search engines take more notice of your website for each individual page created.
